Manual update of Verba services

Manual update of Verba services

In certain cases our support team might provide a patch, that includes a single exe file, that replaces a service. Manually updating a single service is used in patching and troubleshooting scenarios.

Note! A version upgrade should always be done using the complete installer package. This article is about manual service updates only.

The single service updating is done by replacing the services EXE file with an updated one.

Warning! updating a recording service will suspend recording functions during the upgrade. Running media sessions will be terminated at the time the service is stopped.

Service Update procedure

  1. Download the updated service file - your Verba support engineer will supply you with a link to the EXE or a ZIP of the EXE file and the name of the service to be updated.

  2. RDP to the Verba Server as Administrator and copy the EXE file to a temporary folder.

  3. Locate the EXE to be updated in the Verba bin folder, the default install location is (e.g. C:\Program Files (x86)\Verba\bin).

  4. Backup the old service EXE by highlighting it (selecting by clicking once ) and using copy / paste commands (a good practice is to rename the copied EXE file by appending the date to the file name).

  5. Important! Stop the Verba System Monitor Service - Go to: Start > Administrative Tools > Computer Management > Services or run the ‘services.msc’ command, locate the service and stop it, otherwise your service might be restarted automatically during your update.

  6. Stop the service you are updating - In the Services tool stop the service that you are about to update

  7. Copy the new EXE to the bin folder to replace the older file.

  8. Start the Verba System Monitor Service and the updated service you are ready with the copy.

  9. Test - Verify functionality

Rollback procedure

If for any reason rollback is required, follow these steps:

  1. Stop the Verba System Monitor Service and the updated service - Go to: Start > Administrative Tools > Computer Management > Services. First stop the Verba system monitor service and then stop the service that will be downgraded.

  2. Remove the updated service from the BIN folder.

  3. Rename the EXE copy to the original, by removing the additional text from the filename.

  4. Start the Verba System Monitor Service and the downgraded service you are ready with the rename.

  5. Test - Verify functionality.
